I am trying to change the dash bezel in a 1964 Malibu SS. I am having trouble getting the knob off of the headlight switch. Is it threaded on or pressed on? Also is the old bezel worth saving? Thanks for the help.

To remove the knob/stem from the headlight switch, pull it so it is in the on position. There is a small spring loaded button on the metal plate of the switch itself, hold that button down and pull the knob the rest of the way out. The piece that holds the switch to the dash is threaded, but you may have to use a penetrating lubricant as they are usually seized up. As far as the bezel goes, you'd be hard pressed to find someone to give you a decent price for it, so it's just if you are sentimental about it or if someday, you want to make an absolutely perfect 1000 point car. |
